Yesterday however I went to see Exodus with Sam and Mark. Exodus were (as predicted) bloody awesome; Evile and Gama Bomb supported. Gama Bomb are...well...how can you NOT like a retro thrash metal band who sing about Robocop and Superman II and hitting people on the head with a big hammer? XD


Mark was lucky too, he was going to get his ticket on the door but they were sold out. He managed to get a ticket off somebody who had a spare going, though. Also bumped into Tim and he, Sam (who is looking to start a shiny new new band with me) and I discussed band names over dinner.

Well, what a manic weekend it has been. And I mean that in the best possible way.

I went to Gigantour at the weekend, because as most of my friends know, I am a rabid Megadeth fan and jumped at the chance when I heard they were playing London again. And damnnnnnnnn was it awesome. I got there really early as per usual, made some more new friends in the queue, and got to the front again ^_^ However, because I was right in the middle on the barrier, and crowds push in from the sides as well as behind, I kinda got crushed, the security guards saw my face going blue, and hauled me out, and dumped me on the side. Still, I managed to squish back onto the barrier, and still had a quite good view, albeit a somewhat sideways one.

And ZOMGGGGGG Megadeth were awesome (just like last time), they played a whole load of my favourite songs again including a tout le monde which they didn't play last time and...and...and...*trails off into fangirl squealing*

In short, another awesome gig by my favourite band. Long may I stalk them around London.

Just a quick post about stuff lately...

Home situation is as always rocky, but no shouting today.

For Valentines day, Dan got me chocolate and flowers ^_^ I can't believe he actually said "I was worried you'd be disappointed with it...I wasn't sure if you'd like it...I didn't have time to get you anything better..." ...what planet was he on when he said that? Why would I not like chocolates and flowers? ^_^ It was the cutest thing ever. (Hah, for all my being a slightly butch geek/metaller chick, I swear I'm such a girl sometimes.) We went out for pizza...all the fancy restaurants were wayyyy too expensive...and we both love pizza.

Oh, and today in CEX I actually managed to find a copy of Icewind Dale I and II. It's SO hard finding games that came out between the mid 90s and early 2000s...old games are easy to find because they're retro and cool...new games are easy to find because, duh, they're new...but anything that came out between five and ten years ago is seemingly rare as hens teeth! Thank goodness for second hand videogame exchange stores. :D Now to recreating the old party I used to play with...

...between lectures. Why the huge gap between 11AM and 5PM? Ah well, I don't make the frickin timetables.

I renewed my gym membership today. About time really...it's February and I still haven't shifted my Christmas extra-poundage. Nobody else seems to have noticed it and reassures me that I'm skinny, but I'm extremely critical of my weight, just one of those things. But of course I don't do diet pills, eating disorders (had one before, it was hell) or anything insane like that; I just walk to uni, and vow to go swimming 4 times a week.

Band rant was...a rant. We're getting a drum machine to fill in while I (why's it always me?) scout for a new drummer; Craig is even talking about writing a new song and having the Dam Busters theme as the lead-in. It sounds awesome, and is another fine excuse to wear pilot goggles.

...my band's new drummer has pulled out. He wasn't even there for a month and he's pulled out.

I guess this means the end of my band, really, because unless they're actually motivated by the prospect of a full practice, they don't even bother to meet up.

So I suppose it's time for me to give up my silly childish dreams of being able to do anything with my musical talents, sell all my guitars, and settle down to the reality of having a nice quiet office job and 2.4 children.

I'm made even more bitter by the fact that being in a band is the ONE thing I have consistently wanted throughout my whole life, and music is the only thing that will consistently make me happy. To have that denied me...just feels like a kick in the teeth. Like life itself doesn't want me to amount to anything. The fact I now have to give up the one thing I love most in the world...just makes me want to kill something.

And of course, I'd be a fool to think I'd ever get a new band because I was damned lucky to even get into this band. Nobody really wants a woman in their band; I just struck lucky on this million to one chance.

So I don't know what we're looking at here, whether it's just a setback, or whether we are looking at the official death of Cat the Musician. I've been playing for five years and I've worked my butt off to get where I am today; was it all a waste?

And there was much rejoycing, because after months of languishing in the wasteland of inactivity and apathy, Nematri's band did find a drummer.

He's a nice guy, is certainly skilled enough, likes and can play a wide range of music, and has got us a place to practice which is HUGE, near a bar, has comfy chairs, and lots of places to plug in. In short, it's not Craig's cold, dark, electricity-less garage so we no longer need five layers of warm clothes, extension leads, and a little lamp by which to see.

We also attracted a little audience today, dispite the fact that this was just the usual "first practice titting around" which always happens on first practices.

I think it's going well.

Whoot...been a while since I've been around, I know, and didn't get to say Merry Christmas and any other holidays everyone may have been celebrating around the end of this month...was away with family (my family is tiny, but we still managed several days away). Now I'm back, so yeah, belated Merry Christmas and, well, I expect to put an actual New Year post on New Year unless I'm away again.

So, what's going on, people? I've been drawing again (spent my whole weekend away doodling) and my sister was nice to me and let me use her scanner, so I can start colouring and posting. ^_^

In other news...well, there has been a birthday of sorts. A 5th birthday. That's right....my characters, Veldrin, Kaatja, Dalisa, Kelly, Elise and D'Arris are five years old! Their creation-day was the 26th December 2002! Wahh...some of them have changed so much...some of them, not so much.

So, the year has drawn to a close. So now, my week in short sentences because my brain is fried.

I've finished all my essays, handed them in yesterday *phew*, now I just wait and see if they were actually as good as I hoped they were, or whether they were indeed a pile o' crap!

May have found drummer for my band, fingers crossed!

Last night I went to see Alex's play, a play about "Christmas, reindeer and sexual perversion". It was awesome.

Last night our friend Tom (possible future housemate) came over to stay and we watched some movies, and had a bunch of embarrassing conversations. :P

Oh, and messy housemate Markie went home yesterday, and before he left, he COMPLETELY cleaned the kitchen (omg) and left the rest of us presents! I has harmonica!

Dan and I are going out tonight for our anniversary date (postponed from last night when I got ill and he had to work late), no idea what we're doing though. Doh, we're so disorganised. :P

And tomorrow I go home. I bought some lovely presents for my family and my best friend Mark back home (including a salmonella bacterium plushie for my dad, teh biologist, and a Metallica DVD for Mark, teh uber-fan) which I hope they all like.

And for next year, Mark has scored tickets to Megadeth AND Iron Maiden! AWESOME ON A STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today as I walked back from the bus stop I looked down the opposite road. The sky looked like a painting, or the background for a movie set. The sky was streaky with clouds, partially hiding the moon, which was a sort of yellowish colour. Odd as it may sound, it's when I notice these things that I don't feel so bad. If the simple things can fascinate you, then you won't have to feel cut up about the complicated things for just a moment.

My favourite smell is the smell you get when you're walking down a street filled with takeaway restaurants, and it's about 9PM, and you haven't eaten yet. That smell is the best smell ever. It's like...a food atmosphere.

In other news, Cat's Motley Crue hairdo has made a triumphant comeback. There's a nice little hair salon in portswood that's nowhere near as expensive as the Bloody Ripoff that is the student hairdresser's on campus, and perhaps best of all, the hairdressers who work there are older and more experienced, unlike the Young Trendy Things who work everywhere else. Older and more experienced hairdressers have seen many, many styles come and go and remember them all; they're not phased when I put the album sleeve for Shout at the Devil in front of them, turn to the centrefold, and say "can you do my hair like that, please?" *points at picture of Vince Neil* because they most likely remember a similar incident to the 80s. They even recommended me dying my hair blonde or black because that was more hair-metal than the sort of bizarre orange colour it currently is. Young Trendy Hairdressers, on the other hand, seem so wrapped up in the Latest Edgy Looks that they can't do anything authentically oldschool. I remember when I first got my 80s hair-metal-do done, this hairdresser who was only about a year older than me looked somewhat freaked out and kept saying things like "I can straighten it and make it sleeker, then it won't be so puffy" (NO the whole point of 80s hair is to be puffy!) and she ended up straightening it flat then gelling it into this wierd spiky do that made me look like a punk gone wrong. And then charged a bloody fortune for it.

In other news, band shizzle. None of my current bandmates are on here so I can rant at my leisure.
Nothing against the guys themselves; I like them all as people, they're talented at what they do, and I've enjoyed working with them so far. However:
-Singer seemed to be too prima-donna ish for my liking on a few occasions, dispite the fact that 1) Dave and I are the only two original members of the band remaining, and 2) we agreed beforehand, on our first band meeting back, that no one person would hog all the creativity. And I appreciate that different people have different tastes, but Singer seems to be too hung up on the whole punk thing. I can appreciate that he may like punk, but he knew we were not a punk band when he joined! Also he spent last band practice getting distracted by his girlfriend (who's very nice, I've nothing against her or their relationship) when we were SUPPOSED to be having a band practice. We needed his input, we were meant to be PRACTICING and all he could do was make eyes at her the whole time. "Spinal Tap" comes to mind. Hell, I love my boyfriend but I at least wait until AFTER band practice before I call him and invite him over! I'm probably overreacting (I hope so, anyway, but it's probably nothing) but if these things are signs of a problem, then I can feasibly see me turning into Nigel (continuing the Spinal Tap metaphor) and storming out. I would hate to because I do like these guys and enjoy working with them (when we get work done) but I've been in bands before that were torn apart by musical differences and other band members half-assing it and/or getting significant others involved in the band process (remembers former band, when Drummer once managed to turn the fact that she'd broken up with her boyfriend into an excuse not to listen to mine and Lead Guitarist's musical suggestions) and quite frankly it woulda been better if I'd just quit ahead of time, rather than attempting to soldier on and becoming more and more pissed at it. I'd only leave if things did get REALLY dire, of course, I'm quite forgiving of most things, like I said, it's probably nothing, just a bad week for us all (lack of drummer is not helping) and we'll be back on track making progress soon. Sometimes I really do have weeks where I have renewed faith in the band and our capacity to do awesomely. Dave kicks ass at songwriting. But sometimes we do too much nothing.

As far as bands go, I'm keeping it hush-hush from my current band in case they think I'm jumping ship (which I'm not; as I said, I'd only quit if things did get bad, and they've not been bad, merely mildly irritating), but Sam (former drummer) and I got talking after the Destruction/Onslaught gig. He plans to move into town next year (if not, it's unproblematic for me to get the train to Romsey), get a job with reasonable hours, and form a new band, doing oldschool thrash (like we'd originally hoped, lol!) I need to learn to sing (at the same time as playing bass!) then we just need to hunt for guitarists. We'd planned to only look for one guitarist, thus having a Destruction/Motorhead-esque lineup (one singer/bassist, one guitarist, one drummer) but Kim is keen and a solid rhythm guitarist. This would give us four members, which I find to be the optimum number. With three you can find yourself spread a bit thin, and five or more can be hard to coordinate when you're the one doing the coordinating! (I was once in a band with seven members...arr, don't go there!) I have great, great hope for this band. Sam and I (and Kim too, since I mentioned it to her) figure we deserve something like this.

Zomg...it's been quite a long time since I last posted anything. Snowed under with work, technical hitches, therapy, stress, and the recent passing away of a family member who I will miss very much :( I go home for the funeral at the end of this week.

On the plus side, there has been a Destruction gig, some epic D&Dness, and plans that Sam and I have for a brand new band. I'm not jumping ship, but I am becoming mildly discouraged with current band (musical differences potentially rearing their ugly head, lack of enthusiasm and motivation and "bah, whatever" attitude from the other guys), and would welcome this project that Sam and I have planned.

Will ramble more about stuff of this nature later. Probably after the weekend.

Today at the pub I did karaoke. And the most amazing thing is...I WASN'T THE WORST ONE THERE! O.O

Which is REALLY wierd given that the last time I even TRIED to sing was 5 years ago and back then I vowed never to again. I was freaking out beforehand going "OH NOES WHAT AM I GONNA DO????" and my friends dragged me down by the riverside where there weren't any people, so I could practice a bit and get some idea of what the hell my voice actually sounded like.

I sang School's Out (Alice Cooper for those of you who don't know) and I was amazed cuz it actually went quite well...I was gonna give Saxon a try after that but I had to hurry home.

So yeah...today something very strange happened.
